UPDATES!!!

Ahem, helloo! Wow, writing in this thing takes me back! It's been well over 2 years since my last update. Seems a lot's happened since then.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who still visits this site. Still get a nice steady stream of regulars visiting. NOTHING like back in the old days but enough to keep this place alive.

Even more thanks goes to those who prayed we hadn't died or anything like that! Big, big apologies for abandoning this place. Blame university, girls, and the masses who think web design isn't cool (when MSN and Myspace blatently are)

So what's happened since the last update? I left you at 'Chemical Ali' winning a peoples choice award. It later went on a mini tour of a few festivals and came third in a BBC Bristol student film competition. Would have gotten a better mark if it wasn't too 'violent' aparrently =)

We then went on to make a 'proper' film called 'Naughty Soldiers' which featured a budget, costumes, and a huge cast. Like Shosk, it died on its ass and we're left with yet another 75% finished film. The trailer did seem very popular though and got us some recognition.

Then came uni. Several crappy student films came and went, until the final year where I teamed up with a Mr Lyndon Booth (met him through Chemical Ali and is now one of the main folk when it comes to us and film making) and we created our new film, 'Jesus 2'. The film is finished, kinda. We've submitted a watchable version but this coming christmas we'll polish it off so stay tuned for that!

We've also changed our production company to 'Guksack' thanks to copyright issues. Hopefully it's here to stay now.

So yeah, got some stuff to look forward to! And for you to look at - www.guksack.com - our new website! There's also http://members.lycos.co.uk/ornsack - our graveyard Bumstead site. Lots of stuff there to keep you busy though.

"So what's happened to Shosk and the crew?" I hear you cry. I have no idea. Dan Hill continues to be one of my best mates to this day although I probably only get to see him once a month. He will probably feature in every film we ever do!

I bumped in to Simon Rathbone in Bristol's city centre during a night out about this time last year. He walked past me before running up behind me and hugging me. I thought I was being mugged. We swapped numbers and had a phone convo about the revival of Shosk but nothing came of it. Nothing heard from him since!

As for Mark, no idea where he's gone! Me and Dan once drunkenly phoned him in a club and we could hear distant mumbling but not much else. It might have not even been him. Mark, if you're out there, giz-a-bell!

So yeah, thanks again for keeping this place alive! The email up at the top is invalid now (it isn't, but I check that account once every 6 months). For a faster reply, email me at braindave at hotmail. I'm sure you can work out the email addy from that! I get sooo much spam from the other addy. Don't add me to MSN mind, unless you're willing to give us money in exchange for film goodness!

Thanks for sticking by folks! More soon, eventually. Hang loose =)

Wednesday 18th June, 2003

Woah! What a surreal couple of months it's been since our last update! As you may know from the last update, we have completed (yes, COMPLETED!!!) our latest movie Chemical Ali, and the success of it has been amazing! It's done a lot better than any of us had imagined and it looks like the success is going to continue!

First off, if you haven't seen it yet, get your buttocks down to www.chemical-ali.co.uk and download the full 16 minute product in all it's glory (12mb WMV file). A full site similar to this one will become avaliable as soon as possible, hopefully over the next few weeks, depending on whether the nice weather keeps up or not =)

But going back to the film itself... It's been shown all over the place and audience reactions have been amazing! We also got our film shown at the Filton Film Festival 2003 (the same place we showed some of Shosk last year, check out the ARCHIVED NEWS for details), where it won the Peoples Choice award! Fantastic =)

It will also be shown at several other venues (details will be posted here or on the Chemical Ali site) so it'd be great if any of you could come down and see it on the big screen.

And we also have a little internal showing at the BBC to look forward to... No really! More details on that when we get it.

In other news, the site has had a little bit of an update here and there, mainly in the links section which has had a pretty big makeover including long overdue additions, and I've gotten rid of Loving Your Company 'cus it was just promotion blarb and had nothing of interest for the average amatuer film maker.

And also, thanks for visiting still! I write this on the day we achieved our highest amount of hits. I thought I'd better tidy this place up a bit for the newbies =D See, it's the regular visiting that's keeping the updates coming ;) We'll probably loose you all anyway to our great Chemical Ali site we have coming up, but for now, cheers!

So until next time, happy viewing! And let us know what you think of Chemical Ali, cheers.

Monday 14th April, 2003

HOWDY!!! Erm, yeah... Just gonna fill you in on a few things... Don't worry, it's all good news.

All this links on this site should be back to normal again at last! Since our hosts screwed up our site a couple of months ago a lot of the video files have been missing, but now all the downloads on both the actual download page and the diary pages should be in perfect working order. Please get in touch with us if you encounter any problems, and we'll sort them out ASAP.

New film coming up!

And also, remember in our last update we said that mid-April would be a good time for more film making action? Well would you look at that, it's mid-April! Filming should start on our next box-office hit as of Thursday, and hopefully we've learnt enough mistakes from Shosk to make sure that this new film of ours goes swimmingly.

Once again, sorry we haven't given you anything exciting to look at lately. Touch-wood, our next filming project will allow us to create a similar site with a whole load more information! But until then we'll try and get a small amount of production information here on the Shosk site.

The forum's still alive! Feel free to use it for any questions you may have (or you can continue to Email us at the above address, we do love our Email so go ahead and send us something!).

Check back at the end of the week for an update. Until then, thanks for stopping by!

Sunday 23rd February, 2003

What's this? An update? Fantastic! Sorry about the lack of 'em, nothing much has been going on lately...

Just thought you'd like to know that the videos are taking longer to upload than planned (didn't realise there was so many of them!) but they're getting there. The Download page should be more or less fully active by the time you read this, and when that's sorted we'll move on to the diary videos.

Oh, and on the filming front, mid-april seems like a possible time so come back then for more info (if there is any!).

The forum's still open, so post something... please... =)

Sorry we haven't given you anything exciting to look at lately, we're on to it! In the meanwhile, thanks for visiting! The last few months have been the most popular for this site (January had about 3 times more visitors than the previous highest month!) and we are extremely grateful for your support! Thanks!

Monday 23rd December, 2002

Woah! What a couple of days it has been! Our hosts decided to completely trash their computers (or they had a hardware error, either way the consequences were the same) so we've been offline for a couple of days. Sorry about this, but it really wasn't our fault. Luckily all we appear to have lost is one diary entry, which was our birthday celebration one. Hopefully all the video files we uploaded at this time still exist.

This may have all been a good thing though, as it's forced us to sort out a few overdue problems/updates. It's just a shame that this happened at the most busiest time of the year!!!

So take a look around and see what's about. I'm afraid some of the video files wont work properly until the end of this week but most of the site should be back up. Sorry for the inconvenience, and remember that the forum is still active...

So, have a great Christmas and I hope to catch you once or twice before the new year. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE-EVE!!!

Wednesday 25th September, 2002

Excuse me? What's that you say? What, we haven't updated much in ages? True, very true in fact... We haven't really had much to say now that Shosk has kinda died on us =*( And writing about our other films just seemed too out of place on this site... So, before your very eyes, we give you...

BUMSTEAD PRODUCTIONS - The new name for our production team, and a new website to put everything on! From now on this Shosk site wont see so many updates (although expect loads of updates in the downloads section still) but Bumstead will feature all of our production in the near future, plus loads of information on our previous projects! Check it out! Download some clips! Sign the guestbook! Tell us what you think!

Hope you enjoy it! See you there! And remember that the FORUM is still open ;)

Tuesday 10th September, 2002

Erm, er, again... VERY VERY VERY VERY SORRY FOR THE LACK OF UPDATES!!! Although we're gonna try and resolve this by adding a FORUM! Ask us anything you want there, and one of us will reply within a day, honest!

So anyway, "What have you been up to that's more important than this lovely website?" I hear you ask... Well preparing for University mainly, and work =( Although Dan's no longer going to Uni this year, so if you really wanna see updates nag him ;-) The good news is that each one of the Shosk team are still living locally (we originally thought we'd be spread out all over the country) and there is talk that we might... JUST MIGHT... start Shosk up again, or something simular. We would continue it but not only was it too ambitious last time around but we learnt so much that if we started again it'd be a million times better.

We've also had some great feedback from our showreel, but no great offers from Hollywood yet, so if you happen to be Steven Spielberg (I hear he's a very big fan of this site) then feel free to ask for a copy of our showreel and we'll get it off to you. I'm afraid we really can't send showreels all over the place, so only ask for one if there's a good reason for it +)

Right, I guess we'll see you at the FORUM! Toodle-pip!

Wednesday 31st July, 2002

Erm, er... VERY VERY VERY SORRY FOR THE LACK OF UPDATES!!! We've been all over the shop lately, s'been madness!!! But hey, if all goes to plan you can see a whole load of stuff from us very soon! We promise...ish, you know how it is ;) Thanks for checking back though, we're getting far more visitors than we ever did when we updated about 4 times a week, so thanks a ton for showing your interest still! And we're now about the 1,700,000th most popular website on the web! I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but I'm guessing there's billions and billions of sites out there!!

Right, so what's been happening in our little world of film then? Well me and Dan completed our showreel, which is basically just full of comedy stuff we've done over the years (with a couple of serious things in there like Shosk clips, just to show we're slightly grounded at least). We're using it to send to various television companies and stuff, just to see what happens... And we've had a ton on interest too! It's really exciting! And if anythign comes of it then you'll be the first to know right here, WE PROMISE!!! Click HERE to see a hi-res version of the video cover, created via the power of Dan and his amazing Photoshop schkillz.

And thanks to our ol' college media teacher Sam Wild, we managed to get some of our films shown at the Bristol Watershed (popular arty cinema) which was really nice of him! Sam premiered his film and then decided to show 'A Bomb is on a Man' and 'Charlie Dimmocks "Duvets and their Owners"'. Apparently the younger half of the audience thought it was hilarious, whilst the older half of the audience sat there blank faced! That's fantastic!!

And we also have a few possible movie ideas to do over the remainder of the 'summer' which could reunite the whole Shosk team! Could be good, lets see how things go...

Anyway, despite the lack of updates we check and reply to all mail most days so if you wanna get in touch use the Email address up at the top right.

Until next time you gorgeous lot, toodle-pip!

Tuesday 9th July, 2002

HALLOW!!! Sorry for the lack of updates on this site. We've been stuck in this never ending busy period. Just when we think it's about to end something else comes along which takes up even more of our time! Fear not as you can expect a ton of stuff over the next few weeks and far more updates, we promise! And to all the people that have made site requests, we're on to them so please be patient =)

You should be happy to know that we've been working on many new productions, including A Bomb is on a Man! We've been forced to churn out lots of stuff as quickly as possible (for reasons we'll make clear soon enough) and we've actually suprised ourselves over how much stuff we've created over the last few weeks. We'll let you know more about them soon, but for now feast your eyes on these lovely preview pics:

Some of our work has been previewed at the Filton Film Festival (as mentioned before) which was pretty cool. We showed some Shosk clips, The Haunt and on the last day Dan premiered his new movie 'The Blood of Evil' which was probably the most surreal thing anybody at the festival had ever seen in their lives, and the audience's reaction was priceless. We'll upload a video clip of it soon =) Thanks to Sam Wild for setting the whole festival up and for expressing his interest in our work, cheers!

Dan at the Film Fest...

Don't forget to Email us with your lovely ideas for this site, or anything at all for that matter (address at the top right). We like Email! ;)

Friday 21st June, 2002

Good day to you! Dave here, hello! I'm afraid we have no downloads for you today, but we do have news. And the ARCHIVED NEWS is back and 99% restored to how it was. Lovely.

Here's the full news on the Filton 'International' Film Festival - INDYMEDIA.ORG - They'll be showing our stuff, namely 'Shosk' segments and 'The Haunt', along side other dodgy/atry student films. Take a look if you're in the area next Tuesday & Wednesday!

We have some exciting news in the way of future projects, but the most interesting stuff is probably best left to ourselves for now. However, it looks like our next major movie project 'A Bomb is on a Man' (written by Dan and yours truely) is about to start, and I can't wait to see how it turns out! It should make some people laugh at least...

I think Mark would rather carry on with Shosk, but he wasn't the one spending all night every night doing those damn effects!!! ;)

Anyway, in the words of the England/USA football teams to Japan/Korea - "Goodbye"

Saturday 15th June, 2002

Looks like this site is getting back on track! However, it wouldn't be if it wasn't for your support so thanks a lot, much appreciated. You've made us all 'happy-chappies' ;)

Site-wise there has been quite a big update today, although not many people will notice any changes. We've just been tidying up the site and updating all the little things that were out of date. We've also added yet another MPEG to the DOWNLOAD section. It's a rough CGI animatic of how we might have ended this movie. We had several ideas and this one was the simplist, so stay tuned for all of our other planned endings!

In other news Dave and Dan spent last Wednesday and Thursday writing our next movie. Shosk fans may be disappointed however as it's a completely different type of film altogether! Cast and crew details are sketchy at the moment so we wont say anything, however none of the Shosk cast will have major roles in it cast-wise...

And if anybody who's interested in our work is in the Bristol area over the 25th-26th of June then you might like to take a look at our college film festival. Several of our films will be screened there (including a section of Shosk and recently completed movie 'The Haunt') along with other various student films which you'll just have to put up with ;) Tickets are £1 (much cheapness) which can be ordered by calling 0117 909 2272 or by popping in to Filton College - www.filton.ac.uk

And if anybody wants to see anything shown on this site then let us know... Coming up - Past movies of ours, Future movies, more effects and more clips from Shosk. See ya!

Wednesday, 12th June 2002

Hello again! Welcome to this lovely 75% finished intro page! If you missed the last update, here's a summary. The PC that our site was run from died horribly on April 2nd 2002, which meant not only did we loose the site, we had no way of updating it for 2 months! And secondly Shosk has been put on hold for a while, maybe forever =( It was getting far too ambitious for what it was (a scriptless home movie!). Fear not, 'cus this site is far from dead...

We'll be adding more and more Shosk stuff now that we have no plot to hide, so expect some mean mothers in the Downloads and Effects section in the next few months. Today we've uploaded a minute long scene that took months to finish 'cus of the effects work! It's the characters first proper sighting of the 'Shosk' and boy is it one mad mother! DOWNLOADS

Here's a little bit of info on how we've been entertaining ourselves over the last few months!

First off, sorry for the April Fools joke that went on for 2 months due to our dying PC! Here's what many visitors came across over that period of time - APRIL FOOL - Remember, MARK ISN'T DEAD!!! But thanks for the messages of condolence ;)

Secondly, Dave, Dan & Ben Andrews completed a short movie on an alien attack which focused on the end of Bristol as we know it! We wont be uploading this movie as it was just a show-off piece for our showreels, but here's a piccy of it anyway:

As you might have seen previously on this site, Dave and Dan were involved in a 15min movie called 'The Haunt' based on reality TV shows such as Big Brother (Great show, isn't it?) that goes horribly wrong. Well the damn thing's finished and will be premiered later this month in our college cinema! They will also be showing a section of Shosk (which will hopefully look amazing on the big screen!) and Gumshoe and Son (www.geocities.com/gumandson) which we made just over a year ago.

If you're in Bristol on the 26th of June and you fancy taking a look at some of our work (although you'll have to sit through many other dodgy student films, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!) then make your way to Filton College for the Filton Film Festival (www.filton.ac.uk).

In other news, Dan and Dave are in pre-production on our new surreal comedy movie currently titled 'A Bomb is on a Man'. We hope to start filming it within the next few weeks and it may also feature in the Filton Film Festival if we finish it on time! It'll be our second Mini DV movie and we hope we can make good use of it at other festivals etc...

We also have a few ideas for future movies, one of which was written by Dan and the script has already caused arguements due to its contrivertial content! Thanks guys for bearing with us, and stay tuned 'cus the best is yet to come!

Sunday, 26th May 2002

Hello there! We have a few words...

Firstly, sorry for the lack of updates! On 2nd of April 2002 my computer blew up and we couldn't update the site. I've only just managed to get a new PC/modem, which is why I'm doing this now.

Secondly, Mark ISN'T dead! It was a nasty April fools joke that went wrong! It was meant to be up for a couple of hours, but my computer died and we couldn't sort it out. Apologies to all those who were upset/offended by it, and thanks for all the kind words of condolence! But he's still alive...

Thirdly, it looks like 'Shosk' is dead, which is a real shame. We had problems with people not turning up (namely Si) and people didn't seem to care about all our hard work as much as we expected. However, we will keep updating this site! Firstly I have to recreate the front page, but we'll upload scenes and effects from the movie that we'd already shot over the next few months. We'll also be keeping you up to date with our next projects, plus the projects we've done since this site broke down (some of which have already been mentioned on this site. But until then, thanks guys! It was fun while it lasted...

Thursday, 21st March 2002

Just a quick progress report... As you might already know if you're a regular reader of our lovely news page, we've all been busy filming our college projects so we've had to drag ourselves away from Shosk for the time being.

Dave and Dan have been busy working on a short called 'The Haunt', which is going extremely well. It's the first time they've had a go at making something as part of a big crew, and all the equipment they've been using is up to broadcast standard so they're basically working on a proper movie for once! That is compared to what we're doing for Shosk of course...

Dan's on the far right, coughing his guts up...

They're currently shooting the movie at a huge mansion (www.kingswestonhouse.co.uk) which the kind owners let them use for free! That is of course as long as they don't damage any of their priceless possessions ;)

As for Mark, he's off filming something or another (although I currently have no idea what it is) and I think Simon's still working in Argos!

But don't worry about all that, because we're planning on filming Shosk heavily over the next two weeks so expect a many an update on this site!

Oh, and goodbye to our Media Production tutor Paul Bryant, who's deserting us this week to work somewhere better ;) GOOD LUCK!

Sunday, 10th March 2002

A bit of a big update today, which is weird seeing as though we haven't filmed anything for about two weeks. We're filming our college projects over the next few weeks, and filming on Shosk should resume straight after that.

We had a problem with the links page, because someone was 'appalled' over their site description! I like to think that they need us more than we need them so we could of just taken the link away, but we also like to think we're kind folk here at Shosksville! We will be changing it, but for now if you can guess which link it is then take a look for yourselves and let us know what you think. It's a nice site and a good looking film, but I think we hold the key to the truth ;)

Our thanks go out to the other guys we linked to for the kind words. And thanks to the guys that linked back as well =)

The effect section has more revealed secrets, which we weren't going to put up but the effect section seems to have become the most popular part of the site! How could we deprive you of our meaty goods?

The guestbook is also back up after a weeks absence. We never knew it was down until today when Bravenet put it back online.

Oh, and there's a minor change to one of the diary entries. See if you can spot it ;)

Thursday, 7th March 2002

Thanks for bearing with us! I'm sure it wont be long before we start filming again. In the meantime we're busy filming our college projects. Dave & Dan are spending the next few weeks filming in a big mansion which could prove to be interesting. We'll let you know how we're getting on!

We've given the links page a big update today. Not only is there now more links, they're all accompanied by pictures too (hopefully everyone's ok with that!). The HTML code has now been corrected, and no longer sends you to another website (don't steal stuff from other peoples pages kids, it'll only end in tears!).

And we'll update the crew page as soon as MARK REMEMBERS TO GIVE ME HIS OLD FILMS ON TAPE!!! AAAGGGHHH!!!

Saturday, 23rd February 2002

The diary's now fully up to date, as we've just uploaded the MPEG to accompany yesterdays diary entry. If you have a good internet connection and you enjoy reading the diary then you'll enjoy the out-takes/behind-the-scenes MPEGs too! I'd recommend them to other people as well but the file sizes are probably a bit too big :( Nothing we can do about that I'm afraid.

We now enter a bit of a quiet stage as we probably wont be able to film for a couple of weeks. That means unless we come up with a few bright ideas for new features then this site will see a lack of updates too =( The crew page will soon feature movies we've made in the past (Mark, hurry up and dig out 'The Preventers" for me - Dave) but that's all we can really add in the meantime.

If you want to see something on this site that's not here then give us an Email (address above) and we'll do our best to put it online.

Friday, 22nd February 2002

Who says we lie to you? That's right, as promised we had a filming session today, and Si was there too! And yes, todays diary entry is up so go there for all the main news.

So, who knows when our next filming session will be! We all have a lot of things to do, so it looks like it'll be about 3/4 weeks until we get the chance to do it again. Fear not though, because we'll be uploading todays 'behind the scenes' MPEG over the next few days (hopefully) and we'll let you know what our future plans are over the next few weeks.

Thursday, 21st February 2002

WOW!!! AN UPDATE!!! Sorry about the lack of them. We've been caught up in other things. Dan and Dave are working on a 'mockumentary' and apparently Mark's involved in some kind of Changing Rooms thing, destroying innocent peoples living rooms and what-not...

We were supposed to be filming Shosk for most of last week but Simon (remember him?) couldn't make it, AGAIN! As much as it annoys us that we haven't seen him since November last year, what it really means is that he's the only one out of us lot that has a life.

But fear not, because we're filming tomorrow and Si reckons he can make it! Let's hope nobody cancels in the early hours (something we're all getting used to)...

Thursday, 31st January 2002

Nope, no filming this week I'm afraid! And no, it's not my fault so don't have a go at me...

But don't worry, the updates will keep coming! Today we've added behind the scenes MPEGs to the more recent diary entries and the links page has a had a bit of an update. Expect more updates over the next week which'll lead up nicely to our next scheduled filming dates. Lovely!

Friday, 25th January 2002

Unfortunately both Mark & Si couldn't make it today so we did jack-all! But that doesn't mean there's nothing new on this site today. There's an extra effect in the EFFECTS section and there's a small diary entry for today. Now I know we didn't do anything but for anyone reading the diary in a few years time they'll need to be informed of what happened!

Hopefully we're filming again next week, but there should be a few extra updates on this site before then.

Thursday, 24th January 2002

So, that's another days work done then! And like most days it had its ups and downs. Take a look at todays diary entry to find out why we arranged to meet at 10:00am but didn't film anything until 1:00pm, and read about the hilarious incident where we managed to snap one of the wing mirrors from my dads car...

As far as we know, we're filming again tomorrow so don't forget to come back!

Wednesday, 23th January 2002

Last week we mentioned that we were filming this week, and we were correct! A prize is on it's way to the lucky winner... Oh, I just got a prize! Coincidence?

For more information on todays filming session go to the diary. That's right, it's already up! And you know what, it's especially for you. SO DON'T SAY WE DON'T DO ANYTHING FOR YOU!!!

And if everything goes to plan we'll be filming over the next two days, so there'll be plenty for you to look at on this site by the end of the week.

Wednesday, 16th January 2002

Still going strong! It's been almost one week since we've been online, and we've had loads of visitors! Far more than we ever imagined, especially during the first week anyway ;)

I've cleared up some dodgy spelling mistakes in the diary so hopefully it'll be easier to read. It's hard work when you're writing as quick possible and you haven't got a spell check option close at hand!

The Effect and Link sections have been updated, so there's a little bit more to look at.

Oh, and before I forget... We're filming next week! Hopefully we'll be filming the most exciting scenes in the film and we might (thats MIGHT) get the princible photography (ooh, big words, must have a lie down...) over and done with! But Shosk will be a long way from finished even if we do get the main filming done, but more on that later...

Sunday, 13th January 2002

Wow! I'd like to start off by thanking everyone who's contacted us and wished us well over the last three days! We didn't expect to get any visitors, especially over the first few days of being online.

We've had a mass update today. The diary is now bang up to date, and most dates in the diary are accompanied by some behind the scenes footage of the shoot. There are also a few more pictures in there too as many people were to scared to read all that text!

We've also added a basic CREW page, although you can expect this section to be updated heavily again during the week.

There have been many other little updates too. See if you can spot them ;) Don't forget to sign our guestbook, you'll get your name on our credits if you do! I know, we're spoiling you rotten...

Thursday, 10th January 2002

Hello and welcome to the home of the Shosk! Basically Shosk is a no-budget movie that's currently being filmed in good ol' Bristol, England. For more information take a look at the INTRO section by using the navigational panel above.

We've been filming since late October 2001, and we've finally filmed enough footage to create enough details to make a half decent website!

The launch of this site also coincides with the launch of our first tralier. It's only a 30 second teaser but there's a lot in it and definately worth the download if you want to see what we're really about! Check out the DOWNLOAD section to view our mini masterpiece ;)
